Hahahahahahaha!

This card amuses me no end.... Found it on Etsy - I'm in shopping mode. Gift shopping galore... I think I do pretty good with gifts. The last one I was a little worried about the recipient liking it, never made it to Josh anyway. But the person who got it liked it and he didn't even have a knife collection.

I've got a ton of birthdays coming up - not to mention X-mas is on the horizon! I think that's the hardest - shopping for birthday gifts shortly to be followed up by Christmas gifts. Sigh. I'm creative but not THAT creative.

My sister was in town with her grand daughter (little Camryn) over the weekend. I had a nearly midnight run to O'Hare to retrieve my charges. It was a good weekend, spent all of Saturday with the family, then Sunday met up with Tash for breakfast and then did my home routine stuff (laundry, etc.) and spent an insane amount of time playing my game. Lol.

I didn't see boyfriend at all this weekend, which is odd. Not that we didn't talk but as I wasn't sure how the weekend was going to go, given my family, I didn't feel like I could stray too far afield. Ah, well. I'll make up for it next weekend. He's meeting the family...well, at least my mom and sister. This should be interesting. Lol.

Fabulous fall fondue...

Nothing finer on a rainy fall night than to slip into a cozy little restaurant for fondue. Warm cheese and chocolate kept liquid by blue flames. The walls were warm red and the music was relaxed and melted into the rainy night air.

I was a touch out of sorts - contemplative and quiet. Content to listen to boyfriend talk, interjecting apologies in silences that I would normally fill with my own contributions. The rain streaked down the window behind me, like clear liquid snakes.

We dipped apples and bread in liquid swiss, cooked steak and ended with molten chocolate covering fruit, angel food cake and marshmallows. Thoroughly indulgent and utterly delicious. I do suspect that the decaf coffee I ordered last night was not quite so decaf since I was up way past my bedtime without being totally sleepykitty.

Sated, we made our way back to the street, the Chicago skies growling above. Wind causing leaves to pour down, conspiring with the thick rain drops. We walked and if I hadn't been so cold, I would have petitioned for a longer stroll. I enjoy being in the rain, it's like redemption - like nature washing me clean again.

I cut the evening short, having work in the morning. He drove me to my car, pulling me in for a whiskered kiss - he hadn't shaved. It was scratchy and funny. My silence persisted.

:-)

I was just asked how RL was treating me these days and all I can say is fan-freaking-tastic.

Going to make my delicious pot roast and for a separate meal that amazing mushroom pizza - like 6 different kinds of mushrooms, covered in cheese....mmmm....I'm starving, forgot to eat earlier...Might also find some time for my sweet potato pie this weekend. I fall into domesticity so easily at times, the desire to care for is strong.

Here's another shameless request for help - got a cub scout in need of some support:

Get your fill of popcorn and treats while helping Milo! :-)

I purchased the mix: Sweet and Savory!

-------------

Apparently, I forgot to hit publish earlier. :P So I'll just add on a bit.

The roast turned out well, and I never made it to the sweet potato pie making. Instead, we went to a wonderful haunted house: http://www.asylumxperiment.com/jsite/ - wow! It was freaky and fun. I think boyfriend got the feeling back in his right arm and hand sometime this morning. lol - I gripped him so tightly, especially in the pitch black parts - no light whatsoever. Stuff was behind me - really really really gave me the creeps.

Caught up with Sammy today - it was good to hear his voice. :-) Got teased by my Ry while we played a little WoW together - I'm still such a noob. It was nice to have a day at home - well, went to see my mom and Nick this morning - but other than that, it was a stormy Sunday and I spent it reading and playing games and generally being lazy about the condo. I'm reading some really great books, as usual.

Found the cutest sweater dress - I think I must own but it requires the purchase of some boots to go with it and the ones I want exceed my beer budget (champagne tastes and all...). I shall continue the quest! I've been in a shopping mood lately - not really sure why. Boyfriend seems to notice what I wear so I'm sure this plays a part.

Oh, totally rambling now - I'm sleepykitty. Think my books and I should get into bed and take advantage of all this wonderful need for sleep.

App and Apple Pies

While waiting for the pies to bake, I figured I'd try the Blogger App. Previous posts-on-the-go were via mobile browser and less than easy to use.

His apartment smells wonderful, cinnamon and nutmeg, scents of fall and warmth. The fruits of our labors from last weekend baking away.

We were up and out early after a late-ish night of Evil Intentions and movies. After the haunted house, we came back for Mexican food and a movie on the couch.

The haunted house was certainly scary. Boyfriend lead the way, holding my hand - at time I pushed him ahead when things were behind me, breathing and shuffling while goose bumps formed on my skin.

Chainsaw guy freaked me out in the room with all the barrels and then there was this weird blast of air that scared the heck out of me - it hit my legs and made me jump, while emitting a small yelp of fear.

Probably not the scariest thing in the world but the drive out was nice, we listened to music and sang along.

This morning we got up early and headed to the pub for proper football and irish coffee. After we (and by we, I mean the team that I am, by default, a fan of) won and had our celebratory shot of whiskey at 11am, we headed out for dutch pancakes and really good coffee at Pannekoeken Cafe and then back to his place for baking. And yes, I know my pic is sideways, I felt a little sideways after having several of these for breakfast....

16 apples and an hour later, two fine apple pies emerged from the oven. One destined for immediate consumption while the other was headed to my family's.

Couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend.

A Poem

Te Desidero - I Miss You - a poem:

A grey, filmy absence is what remains.

I miss you.

You've been gone awhile now - I don't count the days any more.

But I still miss you.

The ache has gone from sharp, searing pain to wistful, gauzy longing.

And I miss you.

I have new habits, new routines, a new life without.

I am happy but I miss you.

For the ones who are gone but never forgotten....

Oh The Horror!!

This is a fun month. It allows me to indulge my love of horror movies - not that I ever really need permission but when I say I'm watching The Grudge for the 5th time in a row the odd looks I'm given are few...

A List of My Favorite Horror Movies - in no particular order:
  1. Alien (Ripley was named after Sigourney's character :P)
  2. Friday the 13th (Classic!)
  3. Candyman (Candyman, Candyman, Candyman....)
  4. The Blair Witch Project (So much bs about this film, it was good - what goes on in my head is much scarier than what goes on on screen - really got to me)
  5. House on Haunted Hill (This has some weird special effects that give me the willies)
  6. Pitch Black (Vin Diesel - anything more need to be said?!?!)
  7. 28 Days Later (This film was tense)
  8. Dylan Dog: Night of the Dead (LOVED it, cracked me up)
  9. Wrong Turn (Ok, acting not so great but enough creepy content to keep me up)
  10. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (silly slasher type movie, loved it!)
  11. Poltergeist (the part with the tree creeps me out)
Now, this isn't to say that these are the "best" (it's so subjective anyway), just some of my favorites! Or at least ones I'll watch again and again. And totally not a complete list, by any means!

What movies make your skin crawl or make you sleep with the lights on?

Costumes?

Ok, I assume I'll be going to something and need to go as something...

But what?

October weather can be unpredictable at best. One year I went as a very uninspired vampire in velvet and I was sweating bullets. A few years prior I went as a gauzy Medusa and was chilled all night long.

My personal peanut gallery is not allowed to comment as his suggestion is for me to go as a "beer wench" - I just think this is his desire for me to serve him beer in something low cut.

I can't say that I'm feeling particularly inspired...Other than the haunted house we're going this upcoming weekend, I'm not even sure what we're doing, if anything at all. On the 31st I will be passing out candy to the kiddos and I suppose it would be fitting if I dressed up for that.

I have no idea what to go as. *sigh*

What is everyone dressing up as? Are you dressing up? Any thoughts? At this totally uninspired point, I'm not above hijacking someone else's brilliant idea....

WTF?

Could we have had less of a conversation in 24 hours?
